Felt Pirate Hat & Eye Patch

Hosea's cousin, Alex, had a Jake and the Neverland Pirates party for his 2nd birthday today.  I got him a few things for his gift that Hosea started liking when he turned two, like puzzles, stamp pads, markers, drawing paper, etc.  I wanted something a little more personal for him and I had seen this pirate hat last week.  So, at the last minute, I decided to make him a pirate hat!

What, you don't have naked pirates running around your house??

You can see that it's basically the same design as the link above.  I couldn't really understand her pattern but the shape is so easy, I just cut it out freehand.  I measured my son's head and then took a few inches off since Alex is a year younger.  His head has got to be smaller than my son's head.  Hosea's head is like a large melon!  :-)  Then I sewed right to the edge of where his head would be so that it would sit right on his head (hopefully that makes sense).  Lastly, I took embroidery floss and hand-stitched around the hat and then hand-stitched the skull design.  Very, very easy.  And it's really cute!  A little time consuming but do it while you're watching a tv show.  That's what I did.

Then, I saw this eye patch tutorial so I made him an eye patch very last minute!  I think it's totally adorable!!

My little guy told me he wanted his own pirate hat.  So, I'll be making another one here shortly.

And lastly, I made these little stamps.  I got the idea here.  It's such an easy thing to make for your own kids or include in a gift.  I bought the little foam shapes from the dollar spot at Target one day and then got the foam stickers from Joann's.  I personalized it and make Alex his own name stamp too.

An easy and fun birthday gift!  Thanks for reading!
